1-O Panneerselvam to replace J Jayalalithaa as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Again.
■ Jayalalithaa has recently been sentenced to a 4-year imprisonment by a special Bangalore court for amassing disproportionate assets during her first term as CM.
■ O Panneerselvam was the stopgap CM even during 2001-2 when she had to leave her office in the same case.
■ But She had then made a comeback some six months later after clearing her name from some of the charges.
■ The verdict disqualifies her as MLA and thus CM apart from putting her out of active politics for 10 years (4 yrs conviction - 6 years penalty).
2- Delhi Metro is the 2nd best international Metro systems in the world in terms of overall customer satisfaction after London's.
■ The survey was done by global Metro benchmarking groups 'NOVA' and 'CoMET' featuring 18 metros around the world.
■ Bangkok metro gets the 3rd place.
■ DMRC is soon going to be a part of CoMET (Community of Metros) group of Metros-group of 16 of the world's largest Metros. The criteria for this grant is an average ridership of above 20 lakh which the DMRC has easily crossed recently.
3-Kenya's Dennis Kimetto creates new world record in Marathon; wins 41st edition of the Berlin Marathon in just 2 hours, 2 minutes and 57 seconds.
■ The previous record of 2:03:23 was set by another Kenyan, Wilson Kipsang, in Berlin last year.
4- The Finance Ministry constitutes 15-member 'KV Kamath committee' to examine the financial architecture for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. The panel will recommend measures to increase the flow of equity support to MSMEs by targeting incubator-based funds, seed funds, impact funds, venture capital fund and private equity funds.
5- Indian Army observes 'Gunners Day' on September 28.
■ its celebrated by Regiment of Artillery-the first artillery unit and the 2nd largest arm of the Indian Army.
■ Artillery was first used in India in the 14th century by the Bahmani kings during the Deccan War against Vijaynagar Kingdom.
6-SEBI appoints Cyan Bhushan as its chief vigilance officer. He succeeds tainted 'RK Padmanabhan'who is embroiled in a CBl inquiry for alleged weakening of a case against promoters of Bank of Rajasthan (BoR).
7- 'World Heart Day 2014' observed across the globe on September 29. The event is organized annually by the World Heart Federation since 2000.
