AFTER early opposition, now slates are coming forward in favour of National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) to be conducted for the admission to health sciences courses diroughout the country. The state government has finally given the green light to NEET that was a brainchild of Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal. The NEET will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education iCBSE) under the guidance of the Medical Council of India (MCI) from 2013.
Out of remaining 84 per cent seats, 70 per cent seats are tilled with the students of region and 30 per cent are filled by the students out of region. The seats are reserved for the students of various categories. These powers will remain with the states.
Slate government has put up a proposal to conduct the NEET on the first Sunday of May so that the admission process can finish early. Other slates have agreed to this. But the Centre is yet to take a final call. Earlier, MCI on its website placed the information that the test would be conducted on first Sunday of May.
Applications will be made available online in December. Hall tickets will be uploaded on the DMER's website next January. Seats for central government quota will be filled by June 2013 and rest of the admissions will be completed in July.
There is a difference between the NCERT syllabus for medical and that of State Boards. A senior CBSE official told The Hitavada. "The lime factor is important and il is very difficult to prepare question paper in lime. Secondly it is difficult to prepare question papers in any other lanauage apart from English and Hindi.
The facility of translating the multiple-choice questions and options into regional languages is not available."
Dr Vedprakash Mishra. now Chief Advisor with Datta Meghe Insitute of Medical Sciences is the key person who has brought the idea of conducting NEET or Single CET. He mooted this idea in 2009 and now il would he held.
