The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has given a call for bandh on
August 22 and 23 to protest against the government's attempt to enact
the Banking Laws Amendment Bill in the ongoing monsoon session of
Parliament.
The UFBU is concerned that the proposed Bill will pave way for issuance of new bank licences to corporate houses, which will lead to privatization of nationalized banks, mergers and acquisitions and outsourcing of routine activities. A meeting of the leading associations of bank employees held today decided to hold demonstrations in front of Bank of Maharashtra, Kranti Chowk branch, on August 22 and Bank of India, Cidco branch, on August 23.
