COAI new emission norms

Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) said that on Tuesday that telecom industry is compliant with the new emission norms proposed by the telecom department.
India has been following the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) EMF standards for mobile towers.
But, recently, an inter-ministerial committee recommended that raditions limit by the mobile towers which is allowed should be further cut down as conditions which were considered by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection while framing these standards may not be similar to India.
The intra-ministerial committee said that other countries were following much stricter radiation norms in line with their own conditions. "Being sensitive to the concerns of the people, the industry voluntarily undertook proactive measures and underwent a massive transition in its network infrastructure which was redesigned significantly to meet the prescribed standards," said Rajan S. Mathews, director-general, Cellular Operators Association of India. He said that industry will continue to work with the government to assure public of their safety.
